One night I dreamt of three angels...
I was standing in a dark place, with only a small circle of light. From out of the darkness came the first angel. She had long golden hair and fair skin, and she approached me and touched my hands, and we started dancing. Slowly, quickly, the beat changed but she never touched more then my hands, always being distant. I looked at her to ask her why, but as soon as I did, she disappeared back into the darkness.
A short time later, I saw an angel in the cusp of darkness, with red hair and beautiful eyes soaked with tears, looking at me. I approached her and held her softly, and as soon as I let go of her, she also disappeared into the darkness.
A third angel came then, with long black hair and a noble beauty. We smiled and she held my hands, and we danced for a short time. Then she stopped suddenly and turned her head, as if someone had called her name, and she too went into the darkness.
I sat down alone for a long while, not seeing or hearing anything. After a long time, the angel with red hair came towards me. Seeing her clearly in the light revealed that she was bruised and cut and was bleeding from her wounds. She offered her hand as she gazed into my eyes and helped me up. As I stood up, she moved in and kissed my forehead. That which had been darkness began to fade to light, and I could clearly see all around me.
To one side was a throne, made from the corpses of men, high and low, which had been reduced only to skeletons. Upon it sat the first angel, not with fair skin as before, but with deep gashes of skin missing, revealing muscle and bone, and a hole where her stomach should of been. An engraved plaque above her throne read "Here be that which can never be satiated."
To my other side was another throne, made from twisted thorns and dead roses. Upon it sat the third angel with black hair. Her skin was no longer smooth and perfect, but was cracked all through, as a china doll, and upon her neck she had a second head, which was ugly and had many scars and disfigurements. Above her throne there was a plaque which said, "Here be the double headed jackal."
I felt the red headed angel press her head against me, her blood flowing down my cheek. I turned my head and saw a third unoccupied throne, crafted from the coldest blue stone which seemed to consume all warmth. Above it was a plaque which said "Here be eternal loneliness."
